– Frequently Asked Questions –

Everything you need to know about the Jagua

– Essential questions about Jagua and temporary tattoos –

Here are the answers to the questions we are most often asked about Jagua, our JAGWA gel and temporary tattoos.

What is the color and duration of a Jagua tattoo?

A Jagua tattoo is blue to very dark blue and lasts ,on average, between 1 and 3 weeks.

The color and longevity depend on several factors:

  • body area(the hands, wrists and feet darken quickly and intensely but fade more rapidly),
  • pH and skin renewal(dry or oily skin darkens less and retains the color for a shorter time),
  • your diet (jagua gets its color by reacting with skin proteins),
  • tes showering, sports, and swimming habits, etc.

On the legs and areas less exposed to friction, a Jagua tattoo can remain visible for up to 3 weeks if properly cared for.

Are there any risks of allergies?

Our JAGWA gel is compliant with French cosmetic standards. As with any cosmetic product, there is a risk of allergy, even if it is very low.

The risk is greater if:

  • you are allergic to certain fruits (Jagua comes from the fruit Genipa Americana),
  • you are allergic to essential oils,
  • you have very reactive or sensitive skin.

Our precautionary advice:

  • always do a patch test on a small area of skin and wait until the pattern has completely disappeared (1 to 3 weeks) to be sure;
  • avoid intense heat on the area (very hot water, hot hair dryer, sauna, steam room);
  • limit the repeated rubbing (bra underwires, very tight clothing);
  • be careful with unprotected sun exposure, tanning oil, self-tanners and UV sessions which can irritate the skin.

If in doubt, seek the advice of a healthcare professional before getting a jagua tattoo.

Is it painful?

No, a Jagua tattoo is completely painless.

JAGWA gel is simply applied to the surface of the skin, without a needle. You may feel:

  • a slight sensation of cold or moisture,
  • sometimes a few tickles on sensitive areas.

This is the ideal option if you want a realistic tattoo effect without pain or permanent commitment.

How does a jagua tattoo fade? Can it be removed faster?

Jagua colors the upper layers of the epidermisThe design therefore fades naturally over time as the skin renews itself.

Under normal conditions, the tattoo:

  • gradually becomes lighter.
  • fades in a fairly uniform way,,
  • leaves no mark once it has completely disappeared.

To make it fade faster, you can:

  • do gentle exfoliation in the area,
  • rub lightly with a towel after showering,
  • go to the swimming pool (chlorine accelerates the fading of Jagua).

However, avoid irritating your skin too much: the goal is for your temporary tattoo to remain a comfortable experience.

How do we make it last longer?

To prolong the life of your Jagua tattoo:

  • avoids to scratch or scrub or even touching the area (towel, exfoliating gloves, rough clothing);
  • limit the prolonged baths and the trips back and forth to the swimming pool (the chlorine makes it disappear faster);
  • stay hydrated by drinking water regularly ;
  • don't expose yourself too much to with unprotected sun exposure on the tattooed area.

The more you treat your Jagua tattoo like a real tattoothe longer it will remain beautiful.

Does it leave a tan line once it fades?

Yes, it's possible: this effect is sometimes called a “sun tattoo.” “sun tattoo”.

If you tan a lot while your Jagua tattoo is still visible, the tattooed area may remain lighter than your surrounding skin when the design fades.

This tan line will naturally fade over time as your skin renews itself.

Can you redo a tattoo that’s fading?

Yes, you can go over a fading Jagua tattoo again, as long as you take a few precautions

Our recommendations:

  • first, do a small test on a small area of the design to check that your skin is not sensitive;
  • avoid getting a new tattoo in the same place several times in a row without letting the tattoo disappear completely;
  • he second application usually takes a little less time than the first one (since you will have kept the previous pattern without rubbing it off, you will therefore not be tattooing the “first layer of skin”).

The idea is to let your skin breathe and regenerate naturally.

How long does Jagua last?

To keep an effective JAGWA gel, proper storage is essential:

  • up to 1 year in the freezer, even longer at –18°C, away from light;
  • about 2 weeks in the refrigerator ;
  • 1 week to 10 days at room temperature.

For larger containers (200 ml, 1 L), the greater volume also helps preserve freshness better.

Can it be defrosted and refrozen?

Yes, it is possible to defrost and then refreeze Jagua several times, as long as it’s done in moderation.

In practice :

  • You can defrost/refreeze it occasionally (up to 6–8 times),
  • at each cycle, small ice crystals form These affect the gel, which gradually becomes less effective. To prevent this, expel the air from the container before sealing it and placing it in the freezer.

The best option is to divide large quantities into several tubes or applicators so you only dispense what you need.

How do you know if Jagua is still good to use?

Two important clues: the color et the smell.

  • A fresh Jagua is blue.
  • It can become greyish over time: it will remain usable, but will be slightly less potent.
  • When it shifts towards brown or purple, it is considered obsolete: it is not dangerous, but it will no longer color the skin.

If you notice an abnormal odor or if it's a color that's really different from usual, it's best not to use it anymore.

Can Jagua juice be mixed with henna powder?

Yes, it's possible. The mixture of Jagua juice and henna is often called Hengua ou Hennagua.

This mixture allows you to:

  • to obtain darker shades, especially on the hands and feet;
  • to reduce henna exposure time;
  • to avoid more aggressive additives such as PPD.

As always, do a patch test on a small area if you've never used this mixture before, especially if you have sensitive skin.

How to prevent the Jagua from running?

Smears and halos around Jagua tattoos almost always come from gel that hasn’t been fully removed or overly moist skin.

When cleaning (usually 2 hours after application):

  • remove all the gel by rubbing well with your fingers under running tap water. Don't use wipes, don't scratch with your nails, but don't hesitate to rub well under the water!
  • Don't worry if you don't see anything underneath: that's normal, the tattoo will appear later;
  • Rinse the entire area thoroughly, including beyond the design, to leave no gel residue.

To prevent the Jagua from running:

  • Don't touch your tattoo until it's completely dry ;
  • avoid leaving it placed on moist or sweaty skin ;
  • If you're using adhesive tape, apply it on only when the tattoo is dry and avoid putting it on if you're likely to sweat.

In hot and humid weather, the Jagua often develops faster: it is sometimes better to remove the gel as soon as it is dry, rather than waiting a full 2 hours if your skin is damp or likely to become so, to limit halos while maintaining a beautiful intensity.

My Jagua transferred elsewhere during the night

Jagua remains active in the skin for 24 to 48 hours after application. If a freshly tattooed area remains in prolonged contact with another part of the body, the design may transfer and leave a mark elsewhere (for example on the leg, arm, stomach, etc.).

To avoid these transfers during the night:

  • cover your tattoo with a non-adhesive bandage or a clean fabric to sleep for the first two nights;
  • avoid the tattooed area coming into direct contact with another part of your body during the first two nights;
  • make sure you havethoroughly cleaned and rinsed off the gel before going to bed.

Rest assured: once the gel is properly removed, Jagua does not stain sheets or clothes.Transfers mainly occur through skin-to-skin contact, on an area that is still active, that can create transfers.
